The WA State Government has committed $6 million to redevelop the Two Rocks Marina over the next two years.
In a media statement given on 14 September 2017, Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti said “Two Rocks Marina is well positioned to accommodate future demand and provide the local community with safe maritime facilities, access to the ocean, and to generate economic opportunities and jobs in construction, retail and tourism.
“It’s envisaged Two Rocks Marina will eventually provide visitors with an experience similar to that at Hillarys Boat Harbour which generates employment and millions of dollars for the economy each year.”
The Department of Transport, which manages the marina, is working closely with the City of Wanneroo to obtain approval for upgrades the current infrastructure and improve access to the marina.
The planned upgrades include:
- Demolition of condemned maritime structures, including the original fuel jetty
- Construction of relocated boat pens
- Upgrading and maintenance of existing jetties
- Reclamation within the harbour for future buildings, boat pens and car parking
- Priority repairs to the existing breakwater
- Priority maintenance to existing buildings
A public information session about the upgrade will be hosted at the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre, 59 Lisford Ave, Two Rocks on Wednesday 11 October 2017 from 5pm to 7.30pm.
The local community is also invited to have their say by registering for a Community Reference Group which will guide the planning and long-term vision for the redevelopment. The group will also discuss issues such as managing coastal erosion and the accumulation of seagrass wrack that frequently washes up on Two Rocks beaches. The opportunity to register for the Community Reference Group will be available at the public information session on 11 October.
The marina redevelopment will take place over the next two years and expected attract more employment opportunities and generate long term economic growth for the region. The redevelopment of Two Rocks Marina will be a welcome upgrade to the facilities enjoyed by the growing population of Two Rocks and the surrounding community.
