The iconic King Neptune’s trident in Two Rocks was the inspiration for a stunning stainless steel sculpture nicknamed “The Trident”, which will be the feature artwork at the main entrance road to Atlantis Beach Estate in Two Rocks.
The developers of Atlantis Beach Estate commissioned Marmion resident Rick Grigsby to design and build the sculpture.
Rick said he was delighted to undertake the design and build for the sculpture which was the very first he had ever made.
“Over the years, I have designed many sculptures for clients as part of my 3D animation business, Last Pixel. However, they were designed as conceptual artistic impressions only, this was the first time I had been commissioned to build a sculpture, as well as design it.
“The developers of Atlantis Beach were really excited by my design, which gave life to King Neptune’s Trident. The iconic King Neptune statue is a defining feature of Two Rocks and the sculpture is a great way to showcase the history of the town.
“One of the biggest challenges in constructing the seven-metre sculpture was the three-week construction timetable. We saved time by constructing the sculpture at my Marmion home which has a large workshop and the necessary equipment to build the sculpture and with assistance from my brother Ben, who is a design draftsman and very familiar with steel fabrication, we completed and installed the sculpture on time.
“The Trident sculpture has been installed on one of the central roundabouts on Breakwater Drive. The central spire (SHOULD THIS BE SPEAR? Not sure of the difference!) points towards the coast and the town centre of Two Rocks.” He said
Jarrod Rendell, Atlantis Beach Project Director said that local residents would be impressed by the Trident sculpture.
“The new sculpture encapsulates the iconic King Neptune statue that has defined the Two Rocks area for many years while at the same time, giving it a futuristic and modern treatment.
“Rick and Ben have done a fantastic job and their new sculpture is truly inspirational.
“We intend to engage several other artists and designers to undertake additional pieces of artwork for Atlantis Beach and it will be the perfect location to showcase their work to the growing community,” he said.
